Vliscofinishes off a year focused on craftsmanship with a new fabric collection that celebrates the art of drawing.
A season of celebrations
For over a century Vlisco’s textiles, with their unique ornaments and geometric patterns, have influenced the fashion landscape in West and Central Africa, where Vlisco is known as the only brand creating authentic DutchWaxfabrics, known as ‘Hollandais’ by many. This season, that rich history of drawing also inspired Vlisco’s latest collection, ‘Celebrate’.
What better time to celebrate Vlisco’s art of drawing than the holidays, the traditional time for festivities? Featuring new and classic textile designs in elegant new colour stories, the collection includes fabrics for every gift-giving occasion.
Vliscoalso pays tribute to the golden anniversary of its most iconic Java fabric, known as ‘Angelina’ or ‘Miriam Makeba’ in some markets. Some 50 years ago, a 19th century noblewoman’s tunic with beautiful silk embroidery inspired Vliscotextile designer Toon van de Manakker to create the design that became an icon of its time, the 60’s hippie era, around the world. Vlisco’s best-selling Java is now available in a new collection colour and in two Special Limited Editions with golden highlights (available at selected boutiques).
Distinctive drawings
The focus on drawing is the ultimate way to round off a year in which Vlisco celebrated its commitment to art. Concentrating on the pattern, thecollection was designed so that each fabric features a distinct drawing; an illustration, an object inspired by real life or an abstract or graphic pattern.
The collection has a romantic feel, with decorative lines representing the dream worlds of the textile designers–visualised through drawing. The illustrative designs play with the fantasy and trigger the emotions. To emphasize the importance of drawings this season, Vliscotextile designer Sanne van Winden added illustrations to the campaign images. These dream-like drawingsillustrate the origin of several fabric designs from the past and present and create a celebratory mood.
Celebrating with old and new friends
This season, there arevarious emblematic heritage designs, which can be interpreted to symbolise many things. Reinvented in the subdued seasonal colours, these familiar designs are a sophisticated choice. The brown tones in the collection were inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s rust-coloured illustrations. Other Renaissance colours, such as old rose, turquoise and purple, were chosen to enliven the palette and create an interesting mix.Vlisco’s new fashion inspiration looksare sure to inspire consumers to create their own outfits. This season’s fashion looks are a three-dimensional tribute to the art of drawing; the craft of moulage has been used to ‘draw’ around the body with draped fabric and there are plenty of glamorous details fit for the festive season.
