Fée Uhssi is an ethical and multicultural fashion label offering limited edition clothing-accessories founded in the UK in 2010 by Felli Uhssi Ubrette, a French/ Nigeria stylist and fashion designer.
Fée Uhssi’s unique designs are created by mixing natural and high quality fabrics ethically sourced in Africa and Europe, and inspired by and based on Art of Wrapping, where one piece of fabric can be worn in a number of ways to create a truly unique and versatile garment for the wearer.
Fée Uhssi offers a large range of clothing-accessories, including convertible/ multifunction and reversible garments, as well as a large choice of fashionable and trendy statement dresses and outfits designed by incorporating African Traditional couture to European modern fashion and trends.
The brand is all about finding unity in diversity, a research on mixing cultures and styles to find balance, harmony and beauty. Fée Uhssi is aiming to incorporate the legendary sense of elegance from Africa in a fashionable modern and urban interpretation. She loves to mix and match colours, prints, textures and cuts taking inspiration from all over the world.
Fée Uhssi blends cultures, fabrics, colours, prints and shapes in order to create clothing-accessories that can perfectly match any mood, style and trend. The designs can be easily adapted to fit every body shape, making women look and feel beautiful.
Fée Uhssi views the body as a precious gift and clothing as the packaging of this gift, which should emphasises a woman’s shape and curves. The aim is to make any women feel beautiful, powerful and free regardless of their body shape, age or ethnicity. The garments help to define the wearer’s style, with the multi functional pieces adapting to their personality, body shape, culture, mood and style.
Through creating her different collections and putting together photo shoots to illustrate her vision, Fée Uhssi invented and explored few innovative style concepts such as: Art of Wrapping, Afro Urban Chic, Afro Fairytale, Nomad Princess.
Fée Uhssi has a varied collection of women wear clothing and has plans to expand soon the range to include lingerie, menswear, and children wear.
The Ethical Promise
Fée Uhssi always been aware about exploitation and environmental issues in the fashion industry, and is aiming to spread the word for people to be more conscious about where the cloths they buying and wearing are coming from. That is why it was evidence to her to start her own ethical fashion label and company.
Fée Uhssi works with organisations to help develop the sustainable structure across the world and seeks out people and businesses that share and support the beliefs of the Fée Uhssi brand. Fée Uhssi’s aim is to promote the use of sustainable, eco-friendly materials and to raise awareness of issues in the textile industry as well as helping to promote handcraft techniques and skills within the fashion and textile industry.
Fée Uhssi works hard to promote handmade, traditional and natural fabrics from Africa and Europe.
The Ethical promise is all about transparency and keeping an eye and being involved in the whole production chain and making sure that the people working on the fabrication of Fée Uhssi’s products are working in respect with human beings rights, are paid fairly and are working in perfect health and safety conditions.
Fée Uhssi works closely with charities and organisations in a fair trade and ethical way, in UK she manufactures her collection at HEBA women project based in Brick Lane, London, a charity founded 25 years ago to support women from Asia and provide them training in English, fashion and dress making. http://ssba.info/heba.html
In addition, in Mali, West Africa she works alongside the Bolo’no Mali charity, an organisation founded 6 years ago to preserve and promote natural cotton from Mali and Africa and traditional techniques of fabric making and Art of dying fabrics with plants & clay. It is all about promoting handmade work and natural materials and support artists and artisans in Africa and help them building sustainable businesses. Fée Uhssi is an active member of the charity since its launch. She is personally working with them to promote their work and vision. The Fée Uhssi products are crafted from natural, organic, ethical, fair-trade and high quality fabrics and lots of love.
Fée Uhssi believes that products made with love and passion will provide happiness to their wearer and will last longer in a wardrobe.
Fée Uhssi also define Ethical Fashion as conscious fashion and is aiming to share her vision of fashion oriented on feel good point of view and to inspire her customers to find and build their own style as like Coco Chanel used to say “Fashion fades, style is forever!”. That is why Fée Uhssi is creating quality garments that are supposed to last years and be key items part of a wardrobe.
