Everything started in the early 80′s, glam is trendy and Danièle Herlin opens her first store «ZAZO», in Annecy. The name had been found, the place was out of syn and it worked. In order to give a new dimension to her business, she opened a showroom where she introduced new talents, especially Italians, and became known among a wider audience.
During the 90′s, in Thailand, she discovered the little Ikat silk flowers, which she used on waistcoats and coats. International sales took off.
After a trip to India, more than ever, this French designer came back to the origin of her work: explore the possibilities of color and materials alone, to the limits of the skin.
She is no good at the practical aspect of her work but what dominates is a sensual poeticism, an alchemy of clothes particles, which don’t get imprisoned in the rules she imposes herself: strict assembling, extreme simplicity.
Far from the effects of fashion and mass consumption, Zazo preserves its integrity and its inspiration, a mix of simplicity and luxury. An unusual strategy, but a voluptuous one…In her creations, one can find a diffuse sensuality which need not reach full consciousness.
