With the third highest fertility rate in the world, Uganda’s education system is burdened with overcrowded classrooms, a scarcity of teachers and dilapidated schoolhouses. As a result, all efforts have been focused on the absolute basics with little available for children with any kind of disadvantage—AIDS orphans, children with disabilities or health problems, those too poor to pay school fees and the many who simply have no school in their vicinity.
KLC was created to address these gaps in the Ugandan school system. Together with community leaders, it will endeavor to develop and implement a successful plan for enriching the lives of these children.
Some Sobering Facts About Uganda:
- 4.7 mean years of schooling among adults
- 15% of population undernourished
- 54 year life expectancy
- 150 out of 1000 girls 15-19 who will give birth*
